Plot Products FAQ

Products are things purchaseable on plots via Sparks, this page covers frequently asked questions about them.

What is allowed / not allowed when it comes to plot products?

Section titled “What is allowed / not allowed when it comes to plot products?”

Products are approved on a case-by-case basis. Below are some guidelines about what is generally allowed / not allowed:

It is generally allowed for a plot product to contain:

  • Cosmetics
  • Expansions that offer new content in a non-competitive context. (e.g. access to additional levels in a puzzle game)
  • Access to the entire game, if the cost is the same for all players and the access does not expire
  • Perks in a non-competitive context (e.g, faster crop growth in a farming game with no competitive elements)
  • Advantages that equally benefit ALL online players (e.g. a global XP booster in an RPG, even if the game contains PVP)

It is generally not allowed for a plot product to contain:

  • Anything that provides a competitive gameplay advantage over other players (e.g. unlocking a sword that does more damage in a PVP game)
  • Anything that would give paid players on advantage over non-paying players on leaderboards, if your plot has them
  • Access to new areas if it allows players to gain a competitive advantage (e.g. if players could get an OP sword from the paid area and use it against non-paying players)
  • Lootboxes, gambling, and other “gacha” mechanics
  • An in-game currency that can buy any of the aforementioned prohibited items

Can I change a product after it’s approved?

Section titled “Can I change a product after it’s approved?”

While your code doesn’t become physically locked, if you want to change the product you will need to get the changes approved before making them. A product must always match how it is described to players; misrepresenting a product is considered a violation of the rules and may trigger loss of product privileges or even a ban from the server.

Note: If the product changes are limited to bug fixes, and the fixes aren’t changing the product from its approved specification, you do not need to ask for approval.

What is the conversion rate between USD and Sparks?

Section titled “What is the conversion rate between USD and Sparks?”

The conversion rate is 5 cents per 1 spark ($1 for 20 sparks). A helpful tip for remembering this is using the Minecraft ticks to seconds conversion formula (1 USD = 20 sparks, 1 second = 20 ticks).

We recommend you price your items in multiples of 5 sparks. We’ll consider exceptions if there’s a compelling reason.

Sponsorships automatically give tickets based on whatever you’ve configured in plot collaborators.

Products don’t pay anything out immediately; currently we’re processing it on a monthly basis. Creators have the option of receiving tickets equivalent to 100% of the store price of sparks spent, sparks equal to 80%, or cash equivalent to 40%. Sparks payouts can only be in whole numbers of sparks, cash payouts require some minimum but this will probably vary by country due to currency conversion / transactions fees; tentatively I’d put it around $10 USD.
