How do i make a texture pack with multiple textures per item

I have overlord rank and i want to make a texture pack for one of my plots where a certain item can change texture if it is a custom variant (but multiple ones) but if it is normal still have the same texture. I want special gems from the amethyst shard but I still want to be able to have the normal one available.
