The Discord is somehow approaching Twitter levels of stupidity so I feel like ya'll will be more civilized.

Why are people so opposed to the idea of a VIP Pass? Here are my personal pros and cons that I've thought about:
  • Pros:
    • DiamondFire has added being the ability for Developers to be paid
      • Caveat: It is currently only a very limited subset of people. I hope that this turns into how YouTube started monetization, with only very very large channels receiving it as a sort of beta-test. However, given that DF doesn't have 2.7 billion monthly active users, it will probably continue to be a small subset of developers.
    • DiamondFire receives more money from people previously unable to spend money. DF has literally been my childhood for the past 7.5 years, and I haven't spent a dime for the past 5 years. I would gladly spend more money (not a large amount, but some), but I've found it hard to justify as "just a donation ". Personally, I think of it similar to a Patreon, but I'm sure not all people feel this way.
      • Caveat: We really have no metrics on how well DF is doing as a business. If this is a way to not struggle financially, a lot more people would be less speculative if some statistics were disclosed. However, since they aren't really open, it's common sense for people to be speculative.
  • Cons:
    • VIP plots have to be very carefully regulated to ensure that all changes are cosmetic and in no way P2W.
    • VIP Partners may be pressured to keep updating their plots because "they're receiving money for it", even when they don't feel comfortable / feel like doing so.

Just from the sizes of the list you'll be able to tell where I lie. I'd love to hear some discussion, though.
Side note though, kinda disappointed with how animalistic the Discord is, but I suppose it's always been like that.

Some more cons I just thought of:
  • The star chat tag just adds to the rank superiority complex of players. I'd like it a lot more if they got rid of it.
  • Not really sure how the system works, but I hope that Sputt is not paid double because he has 2 VIP plots.

I do get paid for both plots but I don't get paid "double" as a result of having 2 plots instead of 1.
People don't get paid for being a "VIP creator", they get paid for having VIP features on their plots that then attract players to purchase the VIP pass. The actual payments for licencing (that is, your plot containing VIP features) is negotiated on a per-plot basis, where larger plots with more players and more influence for obvious reasons are more valuable to have VIP licensed, and are therefore (generally) offered more compensation. 2 small (less played) VIP licenced plots can effectively get the same compensation as 1 larger (more played) VIP licenced plot. The scope of the implemented VIP features in the plots is also taken into consideration.

I will say this clears up a lot of misaccusations about the VIP pass and VIP creator. Coming from a VIP creator this can be more trusted that people saying "p2w". Thanks for clearing things up on this post.

Oh, so the system is more per-unit with additional rewards depending on activity. Thanks for the transparency.
