Add an official resourcepack with custom model data that adds new items (such as ruby/copper/emerald/[any other cool material] equipment) + datapack that allows crafting them + a menu where you can get all of them.
I might sound lazy, but this would actually help creators a lot. No need to cut off your abilities because you don't have a red sword, no need to create infinite resource packs, no even need to use leather armor! (almost)
